At Avon, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive community and celebrating the diversity of Avon Ambassadors. As we mark the commencement of Black History Month, we are honoured to spotlight our Ambassadors and share their stories.

What does Black History Month mean to you?
Black History Month is a time of reflection, education and celebration. Personally, it represents an opportunity to honour the achievements, resilience and contributions of Black individuals throughout history who have shaped the world we live in. On a deeper level, it reminds me of the power of courage, perseverance and the importance of creating spaces for everyone’s stories to be told and valued. It’s not just about looking back but also about moving forward with intention and alliance.
How has your cultural heritage influenced your journey as an Ambassador?
Growing up in a family of salespeople, I saw firsthand how community involvement and care led to cherished relationships and connections. My family's community presence was positive in a time where the world struggled with race equality. It was a natural progression for me to build a life in the sales profession. The relationships formed with customers and team members are priceless. I love being a positive role model for people of colour. I built a business from the ground up before we had the technology we have today. If I can do this, anyone can.
Can you share a moment in your life or career that has inspired you or shaped who you are today?
There have been more "proud moments" than I can address. My Avon team makes me proud. They are resilient and work hard to reach goals. In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, we worked up until the very last minute on our million-dollar team goal. Sadly, we missed it by a tiny amount, but it was a proud moment. We got closer than we would have gotten if we had not tried.
What advice would you give to others looking to embrace their heritage and make an impact?
There are so many benefits to being your own boss. There is something for everyone. Make yourself visible in your community. Start off small and build up to where you want to be. I have built amazing relationships with my customers at local Mobile-area retirement homes. They help me sell and pack and unpack or just sit with me when I'm there. I enjoy their company. The past few years have been tough, but I keep going. Keep smiling, keep moving and don't give up. This too, shall pass.
Is there anything else you'd like to share that you feel represents your story or experience?
It's been an incredible journey with Avon—February 1st marks 31 years. I've had lots of ups and a few downs. I'm still here. In June 2025, at the age of 56, I will graduate college with my degree in Marketing, thanks to tuition support through Avon. I'm proud of myself and grateful for my family and team, who have been very patient, supportive and understanding.

What does Black History Month mean to you?
For me, Black History Month is a time to celebrate, appreciate and learn about the achievements and contributions of people who weren't, and even to some extent sometimes still aren't, recognized for their contributions or their ability to make meaningful contributions to the world. It's an opportunity to remember that a person's skin colour or heritage doesn't make them anything less than equal to everyone else. It's also an opportunity to let the lessons from our past continue unforgotten as we shape the future.
How has your cultural heritage influenced your journey as an Ambassador?
The most profound influence cultural heritage has had on my career as an Ambassador is fostering a deep awareness of injustice and a passionate commitment to uplifting, empowering and creating equal opportunities for those who lack them. This commitment extends not only to BIPOC communities but, for me especially, to women and people with disabilities. I love that The Avon Company has always been a place where individuals from all walks of life are welcomed and empowered to take control of their financial futures. It’s a community where we honour and celebrate each other’s uniqueness and contributions. I love being a part of that story and do the best I can to model it daily.
Can you share a moment in your life or career that has inspired you or shaped who you are today?
When I started as an Avon Ambassador, I was just a teenager, but I saw other women succeeding as entrepreneurs with Avon, including women who looked like me and the women in my life and family: Women like Donna Reid-Mitchell and Marie Benoit-Wilcox who were buying homes, traveling and being celebrated for their contribution to the lives of other women. I think that shaped me as a young girl. It showed me that I could be and do anything—that people who looked like me belonged in business, could achieve financial freedom and could do these amazing things for their family. Whenever I started to let that small inner voice in that said, "You can't do that," or "That's not for you," I thought about those women and told myself that if they could, maybe I could too. That "maybe" was often all that I needed to keep going, to push through challenges, to step outside my comfort zone and seize opportunities. I believe it's the small daily decisions that shape our lives.
What advice would you give to others looking to embrace their heritage and make an impact?
My advice is always to go for it! You already have the potential to do anything, to do incredible, unbelievable things. If something's been put on your heart, if there's a small voice inside you telling you that you can do or achieve something, it's there inside you for a reason. Go for it! You have no idea where it will lead you or how many lives you'll touch along the way. I certainly had no idea my decision to start what was then a "little side hustle" as an Avon Ambassador would change my life in so many beautiful, empowering ways.
Is there anything else you'd like to share that you feel represents your story or experience?
I'm just extremely proud and honoured by the opportunity being an Avon Ambassador has given me to be for someone else what other phenomenal women have been to me.
